Saving Lives on the Frontline

Redefining What’s Possible. From Rural to Warzone Medicine

Before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, hospitals in the country’s rural eastern regions primarily treated common ailments—colds, flus, arthritis. But as the war crept closer and civilians were increasingly caught in the crossfire, the medical landscape transformed dramatically. Doctors had to quickly adapt to treating traumatic injuries: shrapnel wounds, massive hemorrhaging, and blunt force trauma.

Medical professionals operated under near impossible conditions—without stable electricity, lacking essential medical tools, and under constant threat of shelling.

This is why our partnership with Ukraine Frontline Hospitals is so critical. Together, we’re making sure doctors have the essential tools and equipment they need to save lives.

Minimizing Blood Loss with Modern Tools

In the past, surgeries involved large incisions and carried high risks—especially when it came to blood loss. But with modern laparoscopic tools—thin surgical instruments with tiny cameras that enter through small incisions—doctors can now operate with greater precision and significantly less bleeding. This advancement is a game-changer for war trauma patients, many of whom arrive in critical condition with severe internal bleeding.

In one notable case, a patient was rushed to a frontline hospital after shrapnel from a missile strike shattered their kidney. Using the laparoscopic tools we provided, doctors safely removed the damaged kidney with minimal blood loss. This was only the third time such a procedure had ever been performed in battlefield conditions so close to the front line, where massive blood loss is one of the leading causes of death.

Bringing Blood Transfusion to Where It’s Needed Most

WWith hospitals shifting from civilian care to wartime trauma response, emergency blood transfusions are now a daily necessity. To help ease the transition, we’ve delivered blood storage refrigerators, warmers, and transfusion devices, making lifesaving care much closer and more possible.

One night, a critically wounded man arrived at a frontline hospital with a severe shrapnel injury to the heart. Doctors quickly determined that open-heart surgery was the only option—while his heart was still beating.

Throughout the operation, doctors had to keep his blood circulating artificially, using 40 liters of warmed blood—each drop using the equipment we supplied. He survived, thanks to our partnership with Ukraine Frontline Hospitals and the generous support of our donors.

Small Tools. Life-Changing Impact.

When we first delivered blood warmers and transfusion kits, we anticipated they would help stabilize trauma patients. We never imagined they’d make open-heart surgery possible in a warzone.

Every tool and shipment of equipment empowers doctors to do the unthinkable. Together, we’re redefining what’s possible on the front lines of war.
