Research & Evaluation
The Center’s customers are both public and private sector, and include federal, state and municipal government, hospitals and health care systems, social service agencies, and academic institutions. Services provided include independent program evaluations, community needs and resource assessment studies, analyses of programs and policies including cultural competency and disparities in treatment, and specialized research and analysis, such as participant observation, focus groups and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data.
For public and private sector customers –including federal, state and municipal government, hospitals and health care systems, social service agencies, and academic institutions— the Center conducts independent program evaluations, community needs and resource assessment studies, analyses of programs and policies including cultural competency and disparities in treatment, and specialized research and analysis.
The LHI Center for Research on Culture and Health collaborates with several academic institutions and researchers. Our staff members frequently present their findings at conferences, participate in poster sessions and publish manuscripts. Internal research and evaluation projects are reviewed through the LHI IRB, whose services are also available to external customers.
Examples of ongoing evaluation projects include measuring the efficacy of: an integrated dual diagnosis treatment program for Latino and Portuguese-speaking adults; a treatment program for Latino children and their families who have been affected by trauma; integrated counseling services for Latino adults with co-morbid substance abuse and trauma who are at high risk for HIV infection; a program for improving medical and social services for Latino youth with HIV/AIDS; a trauma-informed training program provided to staff of federal shelters of unaccompanied alien children (UAC).
