LHI Core Values
Cultura: We are committed to creating an organization, a community, and a Commonwealth in which Latin American culture is a strength, and in which Latin Americans are recognized and valued for important contributions to the public’s health.
Unidad: We promote the preservation and development of Latin American Unity, fostering inter- and intra-group harmony among Latin Americans of diverse origins.
Poder: We recognize that power is essential for community and individual health. In joining others to access our own power, we demonstrate that power cannot be bestowed –it must be seized and exercised.
Conexión: We foster connectedness between the Institute, the community, and diverse service providers; across specific purposes, disparate disciplines, and categorical programs; and among program participants and staff.
Inclusividad: We respect, welcome, embrace, and celebrate differences in race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability, national origin, language, and linguistic proficiency.
Familia, Respeto y Confianza: We gain identity as part of the family, the community, and the Latin American Nation; we serve our program participants and their families, and treat our colleagues and partners, with dignity; through respectful, considerate, mindful interactions, we build trust and loyalty.
Participación: We invite, encourage, and embrace the participation of the community in our governance, of partners in analysis and planning, of program participants in service design and delivery, and of staff in the management of the organization.
Calidad: We strive to define and attain the highest professional and ethical standards, and are engaged in Continuous Quality Improvement.
Efectividad y Eficiencia: We promote the design and delivery of interventions that are culturally competent, technologically appropriate, and sustainable. Accountability, outcomes evaluation, and cost effectiveness are constant measures of our performance.
Masa Crítica: While we support the inclusion of Latin Americans at all levels in the public and private sectors, we promote the formation of a critical mass of Latin Americans in Latin American-controlled organizations to further our community agenda and concentrate our power.
